Learn how to use the Fitbit app to track the steps you take with your phone
Can I use the Fitbit app to track my steps on my phone?
If you don't have a fitness tracking device, not to worry! You can use your phone as your fitness tracker via the Fitbit app. You do not need to have a Fitbit device to use this method.
- To get started, download the Fitbit app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- Open the Fitbit app and tap Join Fitbit.
- When asked which tracker you're setting up, choose Just the app and follow the instructions.
- Once you've set up the Fitbit app, go to Wellbeing+ and select the hamburger menu in the upper left corner of your dashboard and then select My device.
- Select Android via Fitbit and follow the prompts to connect your Fitbit account to Wellbeing+. You can learn more about connecting the Fitbit app to Wellbeing+ here.
If you have questions about how the Fitbit app tracks your steps, please see this article from Fitbit for more information.
Can I use Health Connect in the Fitbit app?
Note: You must use the Fitbit app on an Android phone running Android 9 or higher to set up this connection.
If you are an Android user, you can use Health Connect in the Fitbit app as well. This will allow you to see an overview of data from all your connected apps and devices within the Fitbit app. Learn how to configure this set up here.
Troubleshooting
Step 1:
Confirm that you have steps tracked in your Fitbit account for today
Here is a screenshot showing where you'll want to ensure your steps are showing in Fitbit:
Step 2:
Swipe down on your Fitbit dashboard to sync your steps to your Fitbit account, and then open Wellbeing+ to sync
Step 3:
Confirm you're using the same Google account in Fitbit and Wellbeing+
To check if Wellbeing+ is connected to your existing Fitbit account, please follow these steps:
- Select your profile icon in the upper right corner of the Fitbit app
- Select Your data in Fitbit
- Select Manage connected apps
- Review all connected apps. If you don't see any connected apps, this means Wellbeing+ can't access this account.
To resolve this, you have two options:
- Reconnect your device in Wellbeing+. When you reconnect, ensure you're reconnecting to the same Google account that your Fitbit account is using.
- From the Fitbit app, switch to the Google account you initially connected to Wellbeing+. To change the account you've set up in Fitbit, select your profile icon in the upper right corner of the Fitbit app. Then, select the down arrow next to your current email address to access other Google accounts.
