Everyone has the opportunity to help create a work environment that supports a positive culture and drives key business results. This starts with motivating, supporting and celebrating employees.
There are lots of ways to recognize a job well done. So, when do you use each, and how much are you expected to do? Most of us are comfortable recognizing when we happen to see someone go above and beyond, but a culture of appreciation and recognition isn't built on quarterly recognitions. Consistency is the way to turn the tide and reap the benefits of recognition: employee engagement, increased productivity, decreased turnover, happier customers, etc.
Let's not overcomplicate things. Instead, start with a simple approach:
1 + 1 + 1
Say “thank you” once a day.
Send an eCard once a week.
(If applicable) Send a monetary reward once a month.
No rewards? Share a recognition story in a meeting once a month.
If you start with this simple formula, you'll make it more likely that those you interact with get credit for the work they do. You’ll also be well on your way to helping build a culture of appreciation, which will have a lasting positive impact on our company, employees and customers.
