Why is charitable giving a significant employee engagement factor?
A study by Global Tolerance has found that 84% of millennials consider it their duty to make a positive difference through their lifestyle. So not surprisingly in relation to their careers, 62% of millennials want their work to have a positive impact on the world. And 53% would work harder if their organisation was making a difference to others.
This growing intrinsic need of making a difference is something – we in Reward Gateway easily relate to. At the end of the day our mission is to make the world a better place to work.
Why is Reward Gateway partnering with GlobalGiving?
Our enhanced and extended Charity Donation feature (in partnership with GlobalGiving) is focused precisely on the needs of the growing philanthropic workforce.
- Employees can easily donate part or all of their earned Cashback to diverse range of charity causes. More than 5,000, in fact.
- There are charity causes available in almost every country in the world. So no restriction on which part of the world the donor could support.
- The donation happens conveniently and instantly online.
- The employee can decide to be kept up to date with how their donation is progressing.
The benefits for employers:
- It will demonstrate that the employer understands the needs of their workforce and provides a meaningful extension to an existing benefit.
- No additional cost or administration attached to this feature.
How does it work?
Donating to a Global Giving charity is just like buying a gift card on the Reward Gateway site. Employees can select the amount they want to donate by using employee-awarded funds, or earned Cashback. Please note: there is a minimum of £5 for UK, $10 for US, or $10 AUS for the donations.
Once an employee has purchased a voucher, they will get the gift card on the RG site and go to the retailer site (Global Giving) to redeem it. Once there they will:
Enter gift card code in the box and click “redeem”
Find and select a project to support and check out
Get a personal email receipt for their donation and receive regular updates on the impact of their donation
What are the options for using Global Giving on Reward Gateway?
Global Giving will be the default option for newly launching clients, so all new clients will have it on. However, if they decide they'd rather have a single charity supported they can switch to that at any point during implementation or later. They cannot have both.
Employees can select Global Giving from the list of SmartSpending™ Cashback options. If they use this, they will use their funds to purchase a Global Giving gift card and redeem those dollars on the GG website (where they can select any project/charity they wish)
If a company would like to highlight specific charities -- for instance, support for Breast Cancer Awareness as an organization -- we recommend creating a custom tile on the homepage that links to a page explaining your company’s dedication to the cause. There clients can explain the ways employees can donate (see options above) and suggest certain Global Giving projects they could donate to, in order to stay with the company’s mission. You can list a few from the Global Giving website.

How do we know the charities are legitimate?
GlobalGiving has vetted more than 10,000 organizations. To ensure each of them meets GlobalGiving's guidelines—and those of our partners—they evaluate the legitimacy, reputation and impact of organizations no matter where they do their work.
How much of an employee’s donation goes to the charity?
100% of the employee's donation goes directly to the charity cause. Reward Gateway covers administration cost in full.
What kind of reporting is available for client companies?
The client will be able to run a R22 report (Retailer Engagement by Offer Spend) that showcases the spend per retailer, including Global Giving as a 'retailer', for a particular time period. In the case of donations the client will be able to see how much has been donated to GlobalGiving with this report.
Note: the CSM will need to ensure the report is turned on for a client, a toggle is available in RM.

Who do employees call/contact if there’s a problem with the process? Reward Gateway or GlobalGiving?
Employees should contact the Reward Gateway Helpdesk if their gift card hasn't shown in their Account: Instant Vouchers or eGift Cards history.
For all other questions or concerns -- for example, help with using the e-gift card code -- employees should contact Global Giving.
Does the GlobalGiving Voucher/Gift Card expire?
Yes, all GlobalGiving’s gift card codes will expire after 10 months from the date of issue. When the card expires, any remaining funds on the card will be donated to the GlobalGiving Fund that will be used to provide matching funds and other grant incentives for the projects on the GlobalGiving site.
