Introduction
This guide will cover how to set up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) on a mobile device. This article is useful to all members who are prompted to set up MFA.
For information on how to set up MFA using an authenticator app on a computer (and not on a mobile) see Setting Up Your MFA To Use an Authenticator App on a Computer.
How To Set Up MFA
When prompted to set up MFA, you will be able to choose one of two methods to verify your identity. We recommend using a computer or laptop to follow the steps below, as you'll need to switch between your desktop and mobile device during the setup process. Follow the steps for the option that works best for you.
Method 1 - Authentication App
Step 1: Download an Authenticator App onto your mobile
On Mobile: Here are some suggestions of apps you can use (on iOS or Android):
- Google Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
Step 2: Log into your benefits platform (on your computer / laptop)
The following screen will appear where you must set up MFA:
Step 3: Open and set up your authenticator app
In your authenticator app:
> Microsoft Authenticator: Tap the plus (+) sign at the top-right corner.
> Google Authenticator: Tap the plus (+) sign at the bottom-right corner.
> Authy: Tap the plus (+) sign in the middle of the screen.
Note: If you're using Microsoft Authenticator, select Work account or Business account when prompted. Google Authenticator and Authy will not ask for account type.
Still in your authenticator app:
Step 4: Add Your Account
Steps may be slightly different depending on the app you are using. Use one of the two options: Scan QR code - or - Enter code manually.
Option 1 - Scan QR Code
> Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code shown on your benefits platform.
Important - All apps: The authenticator app will open its own QR code scanner. Do not use your phone's regular camera app - it will not work. You must scan the QR code from within the authenticator app.
Option 2 - Enter the Code Shown in the App
> Type the code from the platform into the app:
Step 5: Add the code from the app to the platform
The authenticator app will now show a 6-digit code.
> Type the 6-digit code from the app, into your benefits platform
> Click Save to complete the setup.
Your MFA is now set up. Each time you log in, open the app, and enter the new 6-digit code.
Method 2 - SMS (Text Message)
Use this option if you prefer to receive a code by text message rather than via an authenticator app.
1. Where it says; Or use another way of setting up Multi-factor authentication - click here to use a different method.
2. Select SMS
3. Select your country code and enter your mobile number:
You will now receive a code by text.
4. Enter this code into your benefits platform then click on Verify:
Your MFA setup is now complete. From now on, you will receive a new code each time you are prompted to verify your login – once every 90 days on your chosen device.
