Introduction
This guide will cover how to set up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) using an authenticator app installed on a mobile device. This process is specifically for setting up MFA whilst accessing the benefits platform on a computer (i.e. you have been prompted to set this up while trying to log into your account on a PC or laptop). You will use either a QR code on the computer screen, or a text message option, to set up the authenticator app on your mobile. This will then enable you to use the code on your phone to authenticate into the benefits platform.
Users With No Mobile Phone
For information on how to set up MFA using an authenticator app on a computer (and not on a mobile) see; Setting Up MFA With an Authenticator App Installed on a Computer - For Members Who Do Not Have Mobile Phones.
When To Set Up MFA
You will be required to go through this process when prompted to set up MFA on your benefits platform:
When prompted to set up MFA, you will be able to choose one of two methods to verify your identity:
Method 1 - Using an Authentication App
Method 2 - Using SMS (text message)
We recommend using a computer or laptop to follow the steps below, as you'll need to switch between your desktop and mobile device during the setup process. Follow the steps for the option that works best for you.
Method 1 - Authentication App Setup
Step 1: Download an Authenticator App onto your mobile
On Mobile: Here are some suggestions of apps you can use (on iOS or Android):
- Google Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
Step 2: In your benefits platform (on your computer / laptop)
> Select I've installed the app:
Step 3: Open and set up your authenticator app (on your phone)
In your authenticator app:
> Microsoft Authenticator: Tap the plus (+) sign at the top-right corner.
> Google Authenticator: Tap the plus (+) sign at the bottom-right corner.
> Authy: Tap the plus (+) sign in the middle of the screen.
Note: If you're using Microsoft Authenticator, select Work account or Business account when prompted. Google Authenticator and Authy will not ask for account type.
Step 4: Scan or enter the QR code from within the authenticator app on your phone.
Option 1 - Scan QR Code - Using the QR code scanner from within the authenticator app, scan the QR code shown on your benefits platform.
Important - All apps: The authenticator app will open its own QR code scanner. Do not use your phone's regular camera app - it will not work. You must scan the QR code from within the authenticator app.
Option 2 - Enter the Code Shown in the App
> Type the code from the benefits platform screen, manually into the app:
Step 5: Add the verification code from the app to the platform
The authenticator app will now show a 6-digit code.
> Type the 6-digit code from the app, into your benefits platform
> Click Save to complete the setup.
You will see the Setup Complete screen:
Your MFA is now set up. Each time you log in, open the app, and enter the new 6-digit code.
Method 2 - SMS Setup (text message)
Use this option if you prefer to receive a code by text message rather than via an authenticator app.
1. Select SMS Setup (on the computer)
2. Select your country code and enter your mobile number:
You will now receive a code by text.
3. Enter this code into your benefits platform:
4. You will see a success screen.
Your MFA setup is now complete. From now on, you will receive a new code each time you are prompted to verify your login – once every 90 days on your chosen device.
