Introduction
Learn how to use a device that doesn't directly connect to Engage to participate in your challenges. This article is useful to clients and members.
Overview
After reviewing whether your device is compatible with Engage in this article: Goals and Challenges - Devices That Connect and Sync to the Engage App, you realize that it's not on the list. What now?
Below are 3 ways you can still participate in your challenges on Engage.
Use Your Phone as a Bridge Between Your Device and Engage
For iPhone Users
- Check to see if your device's app can send steps to the Apple Health app. This option can be found in the Settings menu of your device's app if it's available.
- Follow the prompts to connect your device's app to Apple Health. Confirm that steps are showing correctly in Apple Health from your device app to make sure the connection is working.
- Moving forward, to sync successfully, please open your device's app first > then Apple Health > then Engage to make sure steps are syncing correctly. You can also learn to sync with Apple Health by referencing this guide: Goals and Challenges - How to Sync Steps From the Apple Health App Into the Engage App.
For Android Users
- Check to see if your device's app can send steps to the Health Connect app. Typically, this option can be found in the Settings menu of your device's app if it's available.
- Follow the prompts to connect your device's app to Health Connect. You can find a list of compatible applications in Google Play Apps.
- Moving forward, to sync successfully, please open your device's app first > then Engage to make sure steps are syncing correctly. You can also learn to sync with Health Connect by referencing this guide: Goals and Challenges - How To Connect Your Health Connect App to the Engage App.
Note: These options may work for Oura, Peloton, etc. However, it does require your device app to reliably send step data into Health Connect/Apple Health. If your device app can't reliably send data into Health Connect/Apple Health, we'd suggest using one of the other 2 options listed below.
Use Your Phone as Your Fitness Tracking Device
If you don't have a fitness tracking device or the device you use can't send data into Apple Health/Health Connect, you can use your mobile phone as your fitness tracker to sync steps to Engage.
Note: With this option, you'll need to carry your phone with you in order to track your activity data.
- To use your iPhone as your tracking device, follow this guide to connect to Engage: Goals and Challenges - How To Connect Your iPhone to the Engage App Using Apple Health.
- To use your Android phone as your tracking device, follow this guide to connect to Engage: Goals and Challenges - Can I Connect Samsung Health Data to the Engage App?
- Use manual activity entry to directly input data into Engage. To learn about manual activity entry, review this article: Goals and Challenges - How To Log Habit Activites, Manual Activities and Convered Activities.
Note: It is up to your challenge admin to enable manual activity entry. If you do not see the option to add activity, it is not allowed for your challenge.
